Boarding time and departure time are often confused, yet they are two different times, and mixing them up is the single most common reason people miss flights. The gate closes 15-20 minutes before the scheduled departure because the airline needs time to count the final passengers, close the door, balance the baggage load and prepare the aircraft for pushback. Once the gate is closed, a late passenger cannot board β even if the plane is still sitting at the gate.

Do your online check-in in advance so you don't lose time at bag drop first. As soon as you reach the airport, find your gate on the information board and remember the gate can change β so recheck the board periodically.
