Warsaw's Chopin International Airport (WAW) is just 10 km from the center — one of Europe's more centrally located airports. Options: SKM S2/S3 commuter rail in 20 min; Bus 175 in 30-45 min — both ~$1.20; taxi/Bolt $8-17. Among the lowest transit fares in Europe.

🚆 SKM S2 / S3 — fastest
SKM (Szybka Kolej Miejska) is Warsaw's urban commuter rail. The S2 and S3 link the airport with Warszawa Centralna (central station).
The Warszawa Lotnisko Chopina station sits under Terminal A. Every 15-30 min; 04:00-24:00.
- S2 → Warszawa Zachodnia / Centralna / Wschodnia: 20 min
- S3 → Warszawa Zachodnia / Centralna: 25 min
- Ticket: 20-Minute $1.20 (4.40 PLN); 75-Minute $1.90 (7 PLN)
A 1-Day Ticket ($4 / 15 PLN) covers S2/S3 + city trams/buses/metro for 24 hours.
🚌 Bus 175 — popular budget option
Bus 175 is one of the most frequent lines between the WAW and central Warsaw.
- Bus 175 → Centrum (Plac Defilad) / Old Town: 30-45 min
- Frequency: every 10-15 min daytime
- Payment: Single Trip $1.20 (PLN 4.40), same as SKM
- Ticket validation: tap on the validator inside the bus
Validation is required! Inspectors fine 200 PLN (~$55) — far more than the ticket.
🌙 Night bus N32
N32 is the overnight line, running 23:30-04:30 once an hour, into the central station.
- N32 → Dworzec Centralny (central station): 35-50 min
- Payment: Single Trip $1.20
- Validation required
🚖 Taxi — cheap
WAW to the center by taxi takes 15-25 min — $11-17. Warsaw is one of the cheaper European cities for cabs.
Look for a license number in the window — Ele Taxi, MPT, Sawa Taxi are reliable brands. Use the official taxi rank outside arrivals.
'Taxi?' offers in the arrivals hall are typically unlicensed, often 3-4x the licensed rate. Use the official rank outside.
📱 Bolt and Uber
Bolt is extremely active in Poland — $8-14 to the center, often cheaper than a regular taxi. Uber WAW also operates with similar pricing.
Pickup zone: Terminal A, just outside the exit, Pier 8-10.
💡 Tips
- Polish zloty (PLN) — withdraw from a city ATM rather than at the airport (airport rates are 5-10% worse)
- A 1-Day Ticket at ~$4 is the best deal for the first 24 hours
- Wizz Air KUT-WAW often arrives late — Bolt operates 24/7
- Old Town (Stare Miasto) — 5-10 min walk or one tram from Warszawa Centralna
