Winter sun on a budget is entirely doable if you pick the right destination and date. While it's raining and freezing in Tbilisi, three to four hours away the sea is warm and the sun is shining. This guide shows where to fly in the cold months without overspending, and how to lock in the cheapest ticket.
🌴 Why fly somewhere warm in winter
Winter is exactly the resort season for Egypt and the Gulf — summers there are brutally hot, so from November to March the weather is ideal and the crowds thinner. Fares to Europe sit in the low season during this window, while at warm destinations an all-inclusive hotel often costs less than the flight itself.
✈️ The best warm destinations
- Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh — the Red Sea, coral reefs and cheap all-inclusive; 22-25°C in winter
- Dubai and Abu Dhabi — visa-free entry, beaches and skyscrapers, a direct ~3.5-hour flight
- Doha — Qatar's modern capital, often the cheapest Gulf fare
- Antalya — the Turkish Riviera; the beach is cold in winter, but the city and prices are pleasant
- Málaga — one of Europe's warmest winters on the Costa del Sol
📅 When to buy for the lowest fare
Demand for warm destinations rises in winter, so booking early is key — aim to buy 2-3 months ahead. Pick the right time to buy your ticket and play with flexible dates — leaving a day earlier or later can cut the fare significantly.
New Year week (24 December - 2 January) is the priciest period. Fly a little earlier or later and you'll reach the same destination for far less — see the cheapest month to fly.
💰 How to save even more
- On low-cost airlines, travel with hand luggage only — see hand-luggage-only travel
- Departing from Kutaisi is often cheaper — see Kutaisi cheap flights
- Get travel insurance — it matters on a winter break too
- Set up an eSIM in advance so you're online the moment you land
