Nuremberg Airport (NUE, Albrecht Dürer) is just ~5 km from the city center — one of the closest airports in Germany. Getting downtown is very easy: the U-Bahn U2 line runs directly from the station beneath the terminal and takes you to the main station in 12 minutes. This guide helps you choose the cheapest and fastest option, including for a late-night flight.
🚇 Options to reach the center
- U2 metro → Hauptbahnhof (main station): 12 min, ~$4.20 (€3.90)
- Taxi → center: 15-20 min, ~$20
- Uber / Bolt / FREE NOW: 15-20 min, ~$16-25
- Day ticket (TagesTicket Solo) → all-day transport: ~$9.60 (€8.90)
🚇 The U2 metro — cheapest and fastest
The U2 line runs directly from Flughafen station beneath the terminal and takes 12 minutes to Hauptbahnhof — Nuremberg's main station, from where you can reach any point in the center on foot.
Trains run about every 10 minutes, from around 04:00 in the morning until about 00:30 at night. Buy a ticket from the VGN machine at the station or the VAG/VGN app. Signs marked "U-Bahn" clearly point the way from the arrivals hall to the metro station.
If you have a lot of getting around to do in the city that day, buy a day ticket (TagesTicket) instead of a single fare — it's often the better value.
🚖 Taxi — comfort right to the door
Official taxis run on a meter — from the airport to the center it's ~$20, 15-20 minutes (a bit more in traffic). The rank is by the arrivals-hall exit.
A taxi is handy if you have a lot of luggage, it's late at night or you're traveling as a group — split between people, the fare comes close to the metro.
Night tariffs are slightly higher. Check the fare on the meter — there's no fixed "tourist" price in Nuremberg.
📱 Uber, Bolt and FREE NOW
Germany's main app is FREE NOW (local), and Uber and Bolt work too. The price is shown up front — from the airport to the center it's ~$16-25, more with surge at peak times.
The pickup zone is in a dedicated part of the arrivals hall — follow the "Ride Share / Taxi" signs.
🌙 Late-night flights and tips
- If your flight lands outside the U2 schedule (after ~00:30), a night bus runs, or take FREE NOW/a taxi
- Buy your ticket via the app before departure — machine queues are sometimes long at night
- One VGN ticket covers the U-Bahn, buses and trams — transfers cost no extra
- The U2 is convenient with luggage — there are lifts and escalators at both stations
In Nuremberg the U2 metro is almost always the best choice — cheap, fast and straight into the center. For more about the city see the Tbilisi → Nuremberg guide, and to compare with other cities the European airport-to-city guide, Frankfurt (FRA) and Munich (MUC).
