Venice is a city in northern Italy built across more than 100 islands and a network of canals. Gondolas, St. Mark's Square and Renaissance architecture make it one of the world's most romantic destinations. Here's how to reach Venice from Tbilisi.
Getting there from Tbilisi
There is no regular direct flight from Tbilisi to Venice — you travel with a connection via Istanbul, Vienna or Milan. Total travel time including the layover is 6-9 hours.
Venice is served by two airports: Marco Polo (VCE), the main one 13 km from the city, and Treviso (TSF), used by low-cost carriers. Seasonally, Wizz Air also flies to northern Italy from Kutaisi — check the current routes.
Prices and best dates
A one-way ticket starts at around $290. The cheapest months are November-March (except Carnival), while June-August is the most expensive, when the city is packed with tourists. Compare prices on the calendar.
A Schengen visa is required
Italy is part of the Schengen area, so Georgian citizens need a Schengen visa. A type C tourist visa allows up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
Prepare your documents at least 4-6 weeks ahead. The Italian visa is one of the most requested, so book your appointment early.
Venice charges a day-visitor access fee (€5) on peak days — check whether it applies to your dates.
What to see in Venice
- St. Mark's Square and Basilica (San Marco) — the heart of the city
- Doge's Palace (Palazzo Ducale) and the Bridge of Sighs
- Rialto Bridge and the Grand Canal (Canal Grande) — gondola ride
- Murano and Burano — the glass and colorful-houses islands
- Gallerie dell'Accademia — Venetian painting
Practical tips
Cars and bicycles are banned in Venice — you get around on foot or by water bus (vaporetto). A single vaporetto ticket is about €9.50, so a multi-day pass is better value.
Avoid the midday summer crowds — the city is far calmer early morning or in the evening. Plan flights and dates with Travel365's price calendar.
Acqua alta (high water) is common from October to January — waterproof shoes will come in handy.
