Gdansk is Poland's main seaport on the Baltic coast, where the Motława river meets the sea. Colorful, narrow houses in the old town, amber-lined streets, Gothic brick churches and the story of Solidarity — Gdansk is one of Poland's most beautiful and authentic cities, less crowded than Warsaw or Krakow. This guide covers how to get there from Tbilisi and what to see.

🌊 The Tricity and around
Gdansk is part of the so-called Tricity (Trójmiasto) together with Sopot and Gdynia — all three are linked by the SKM commuter train in 30-40 minutes. Sopot is the Baltic's most famous seaside resort, with a long wooden pier (molo), while Gdynia is a modern port city.
Malbork Castle is worth a day trip — the world's largest brick fortress, ~40-50 minutes by train from Gdansk. In summer, the Baltic beaches and hunting for amber along the shore are a pleasure in themselves.

📅 Best season and practical tips
The best time for Gdansk is May-September — warm weather, open beaches, and in August the traditional St. Dominic's Fair. Winter is cold and dark, but prices are low and the Christmas market is lovely.
To combine it with other Polish cities on one trip, see Tbilisi → Warsaw and Tbilisi → Krakow.
