A flight delay or cancellation is a bad experience, but the good news is that on flights in Europe, many passengers are entitled to compensation — a fact most people don't know.
EU-261 regulation
EU Regulation 261/2004 applies to every flight that:
- Departs from the EU (any airline)
- Arrives in the EU on an EU airline
- Is delayed 3+ hours or canceled
- Is caused by the airline's fault (not bad weather or force majeure)
Compensation amounts
Compensation depends on flight distance:
- Up to 1,500 km (short) — €250
- 1,500–3,500 km (medium) — €400
- 3,500+ km (long) — €600
Are you entitled?
If you fly from Georgia to Europe on an EU airline (Lufthansa, KLM, Air France, etc.) or from Europe to Tbilisi — EU-261 applies.
Tbilisi–Istanbul on Pegasus does not (Turkish airline, flight outside the EU).
Flyhelp.com is a specialized platform that helps you claim compensation — they prepare the application and manage the process. Checking is free.
How to claim
- 1. Keep your ticket, boarding pass and flight evidence
- 2. Record the actual delay time
- 3. Contact the airline in writing
- 4. If denied — escalate via a specialized platform (Flyhelp, AirHelp)
