Carry-on rules aren't universal — each airline has its own. The right preparation will save you time and money at the airport.
Size and weight by airline
Common limits include:
- Turkish Airlines — 55×40×23 cm, 8 kg
- Pegasus Airlines — 55×40×20 cm, 8 kg
- Wizz Air (without priority) — 40×30×20 cm small bag
- Wizz Air (priority) — 55×40×23 cm, 10 kg
- Lufthansa — 55×40×23 cm, 8 kg
- Ryanair — 40×20×25 cm small bag (without priority)
Liquids — the 100 ml rule
Liquids in carry-on — only in containers of 100 ml or less. All containers must fit in a single 1-liter clear plastic bag.
This applies to: water, ice, shampoo, cosmetics, toothpaste, liquid medication.
Bring an empty reusable water bottle — after security, you can fill it for free from airport fountains.
Allowed in carry-on
- ✅ Laptop, phone, tablet, camera
- ✅ Books, writing supplies
- ✅ Small amounts of prescription medication
- ✅ One small personal item (handbag) — usually a separate allowance
- ✅ Small fruits/vegetables and snacks
Prohibited in carry-on
- ❌ Sharp objects — knives, scissors over 6 cm
- ❌ Liquids over 100 ml
- ❌ Explosives, flammable liquids
- ❌ Lithium batteries over 100 Wh
- ❌ Weapons, ammunition (checked baggage only)
Personal item
Many airlines allow a small personal item — handbag, laptop backpack — in addition to your carry-on. Check your ticket's rules before flying.
