Hamburg is Germany's second-largest city and the country's main seaport. Water canals (it has more bridges than Venice), the red-brick Speicherstadt, the modern Elbphilharmonie and the lively St. Pauli make Hamburg the most energetic city in northern Germany. This guide covers how to get there from Tbilisi, what you need to enter and what to see.

📅 Best season and neighborhoods
The best time in Hamburg is May to September — long days and the season for canal walks and harbor tours. Winter is cold and wet, though the Christmas markets are lovely.
Where to stay: Altstadt/Neustadt (center, close to everything), HafenCity (modern, near the Elbphilharmonie), St. Georg (near the station, budget-friendly) or St. Pauli (nightlife). On Sunday be sure to visit the Fischmarkt — a morning fish market with live music.
The main way around Hamburg is the HVV S-Bahn and U-Bahn network. A day ticket or the HamburgCARD covers transport plus attraction discounts at one price.
🚇 From the airport to the center
Hamburg Airport (HAM) is just ~8.5 km from the center and the S1 S-Bahn takes you directly to Hauptbahnhof (the main station) in 25 minutes. For the full options, prices and schedule see Hamburg (HAM) → city center.
