An error fare is a ticket price published by an airline or system by mistake: a wrong currency, a missing zero or a technical glitch. Such tickets are often 50-90% cheaper than normal.
Where to look
- Dedicated sites: Secret Flying, Fly4free, Jack's Flight Club
- Google Flights — set a price alert on a route
- Reddit threads (r/Flights, r/travel)
- Telegram channels for error fares
How to act fast
Error fares disappear within minutes or hours. Act quickly:
- Book immediately — don't wait
- Pay in full if possible
- Don't call the airline to confirm — it exposes their mistake
- Wait 24-72 hours for the ticket to be confirmed before booking a hotel
The risk — possible cancellation
An airline has the right to cancel an obvious error fare. They often still honour the ticket for reputation, but there's no guarantee.
Before planning a whole holiday around an error fare — wait until the airline officially confirms the ticket. Don't buy non-refundable hotels in advance.
Payment tip
Use a credit card — if the ticket is cancelled, getting your money back is easier (chargeback). With a debit card the funds can be blocked for a long time.
