Kraków John Paul II Airport (KRK, Balice) lies 11 km west of the center and — thanks to direct Wizz Air flights from Kutaisi — is the main Polish gateway for travelers from Georgia. Your options into town: the SKA1 train — ~$4.50 (17 zł), 17-20 min; a city bus — ~$2, 40-50 min; a taxi or Bolt — 20-30 min, $13-35.
🚇 Ways into the center
- SKA1 train → Kraków Główny (main station): 17-20 min, ~$4.50 (17 zł)
- Bus 208/252 → center: 40-50 min, ~$2 (8 zł, zone I+II ticket)
- Night bus 902: ~$2, when the train no longer runs
- Bolt / Uber / FreeNow: 20-30 min, $13-22 (50-90 zł)
- Official taxi (iCar): $22-35 (90-140 zł)
🚆 The SKA1 train — the best pick
The SKA1 reaches Kraków Główny in 17-20 minutes — the airport station connects to the terminal via a covered footbridge, with the way clearly signed. The main station sits right at the edge of the Old Town: the Rynek is a 10-15 minute walk.
It runs from about 04:00 until midnight, every 30 minutes (every 60 off-peak).
- Ticket: ~$4.50 (17 zł) — from station machines, on board or via mobile apps
- Luggage racks and free seating in every carriage
- In the opposite direction the line reaches Wieliczka — handy for a salt mine day trip
If you buy on board, find the conductor as soon as you get on — riding unvalidated counts as fare-dodging in Poland too.
🚌 Buses 208, 252 and the night 902
City buses link the airport to the center slowly but cheaply — 40-50 minutes depending on traffic. The stop is right outside the terminal; buy your ticket from a machine or in the app. The airport sits in zone I+II, so you need the 60-minute agglomeration ticket (~$2 / 8 zł).
After midnight the night bus 902 takes over — often the only budget option for Wizz Air's late arrivals.
Validate the ticket in the on-board machine the moment you board — inspections are frequent on airport routes and the fine is ~$60 (240 zł).
🚖 Taxis and apps
The official taxi rank is outside the arrivals exit — $22-35 (90-140 zł) to the center, slightly more at night. Bolt, Uber and FreeNow all operate fully in Kraków and usually cost about a third less — the pickup zone is on the parking level, and the app shows the exact spot.
Don't follow 'Taxi?' touts inside the arrivals hall — their prices are often inflated.
💡 Tips
- Kutaisi → Kraków is a direct Wizz Air route — see the full city guide in Tbilisi → Kraków
- Buses to the Auschwitz Memorial leave from the lower level (MDA) of the main station
- Withdraw złoty from an ATM in the city — the airport exchange desks offer poor rates
- ETIAS phases in from H2 2026 — you'll need an online authorization before flying
