Zagreb International Airport (ZAG), also known as Franjo Tuđman Airport, sits 17 km southeast of the city center. The main options into town are: ZET bus 290 — the cheapest, but requires a transfer; the Pleso Prijevoz shuttle — direct to the main bus station; and taxi or Bolt/Uber.
🚇 Ways into the center
- ZET bus 290 → Kvaternikov trg (requires a tram transfer to reach the center): 45-50 min, ~$1
- Pleso Prijevoz shuttle → Autobusni kolodvor (main bus station): 35-45 min, ~$10
- Taxi → city center: 20-25 min, ~$28-38
- Bolt/Uber → city center: ~$24-33, often cheaper than a taxi
🚌 ZET bus 290 — the cheapest option
ZET's city bus 290 runs from the airport to Kvaternikov trg, from where you'll need a tram to reach the central Ban Jelačić Square. A ticket bought in advance (via the ZET app or a kiosk) costs about $1; buying from the driver costs slightly more.
If you're carrying heavy luggage or want to skip the tram transfer, the Pleso Prijevoz shuttle is more convenient, though a bit pricier.
🚐 Pleso Prijevoz shuttle — direct to the main bus station
The Pleso Prijevoz shuttle runs straight to the main bus station (Autobusni kolodvor), from where you can reach the center by tram or on foot. The shuttle runs roughly every 30 minutes, until about 22:30.
- Travel time: 35-45 minutes
- Fare: ~$10, bought on board or online in advance
- Convenient for daytime flights, not for late-night arrivals
🚖 Taxi and Bolt/Uber
An official metered taxi to the center runs about $28-38. Bolt operates well in Croatia and is often cheaper than a taxi, at around $24-33. Uber is also available in Zagreb.
After 22:30 the Pleso Prijevoz shuttle stops running — a taxi or Bolt is the only reliable option for a late-night arrival.
💡 Tips
- Croatia uses the euro (€) — no separate currency exchange needed
- Car rental is available right at the terminal — handy if you're planning to see Plitvice or Istria
- Once you're in the center, the city's tram network covers most walkable distances well
