Florence Airport (FLR), also known as Peretola, is about 5 km from the city center. It is small, so arrival is quick and getting to the center is simple: by tram, bus or taxi.
🚋 Tram T2 — the cheapest option
Tram T2 links the airport with the center at the Piazza dell'Unità stop, about a 10-minute walk from the Duomo. The ride takes around 20 minutes and a ticket costs about $2. Buy your ticket at the stop machine and validate it when you board.
🚌 Volainbus — straight to the station
Volainbus connects the airport with Santa Maria Novella railway station. The ride takes around 25 minutes and a ticket costs about $7. It is a good choice if your hotel is near the station or you continue by train.
🚕 Taxi
A taxi reaches the center in 10-15 minutes and costs around $27. Use only the official taxi rank — see Avoiding Taxi Scams Abroad: How to Protect Yourself. For groups of three or more, a taxi is often economical.
✈️ Pisa Airport — an alternative
Sometimes tickets to Pisa Airport (PSA) are cheaper. The PisaMover and a train to Florence take about 1-1.5 hours and cost roughly $9-13, so allow extra time for this plan.
Prices and timetables change. Check the operator's official website before you travel.
💡 Practical tips
- Validate your tram ticket on board, otherwise you may be fined
- For late-night arrivals, check the tram timetable in advance
- Florence's center is easy to explore on foot, so choose a hotel close to it
