Rotterdam is the most modern city in the Netherlands: its center was almost entirely destroyed in World War II, so today bold architecture and Europe's biggest port greet visitors. If you are planning Tbilisi to Rotterdam, keep in mind that, unlike Amsterdam, here you will see skyscrapers, bridges and unusual buildings more than canals.
✈️ How to get there from Tbilisi
There is normally no direct flight from Tbilisi to Rotterdam. The practical route is a flight to Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS), then a train to Rotterdam Centraal in about 25-40 minutes for roughly $16-18. For Amsterdam itself, see "Tbilisi → Amsterdam: guide to the city of canals". Compare fares on Travel365's price calendar.
🏙️ What to see
- Cube Houses (Kubuswoningen) — tilted yellow cubes, one of which is a museum you can enter
- Markthal — an arched market hall under a giant colorful ceiling
- Erasmus Bridge — the city's symbol, nicknamed "The Swan"
- Euromast — a 185-meter tower with panoramic views
- Delfshaven — a rare historic quarter of the old harbor
- Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen — a mirrored art storage building open to visitors
🚇 Transport and money
The city has a metro, trams and buses; you pay by contactless bank card or with an OV-chipkaart. A day ticket costs roughly $10-11. Many sights are walkable from the center. For general rules, read "Public Transport Tickets in Europe: A Traveler's Guide".
📆 How many days and when
One or two days is enough for Rotterdam, and you can plan a day trip to Delft or The Hague, only 15-25 minutes by train. The best time is April to September, though the city is attractive in winter too. The Netherlands is in Schengen, so you will need a Schengen visa — see "Schengen visa 2026".
🗺️ A Benelux route
Rotterdam combines well with a trip toward Belgium. See "Tbilisi → Bruges: Belgium's Medieval City Guide" and "Tbilisi to Brussels: Complete Guide to the EU Capital 2026" — both are a few hours away by train.
