Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) sits about 25 km east of central Bangkok. Some budget carriers use Don Mueang Airport (DMK) instead — always double-check which airport your flight uses before booking.
🚕 Ways into the center
- Airport Rail Link (ARL) City Line → Phaya Thai station: ~30 min, ~$1.5 (45 THB)
- Metered taxi → center: 40-60 min, ~$10-15 (meter fare + expressway tolls + a $1.5 airport surcharge)
- Grab (Thailand's dominant ride-hailing app) → center: 40-60 min, ~$10-15, with the price shown upfront
- Pre-booked hotel shuttle → straight to your hotel
🚄 Airport Rail Link — the fastest option
The ARL City Line runs from the terminal basement straight to Phaya Thai station with no traffic — from there you can transfer onto the BTS Skytrain. Buy tickets from the machines in the terminal.
- Trains run every 10-15 minutes, 06:00-24:00
- From Phaya Thai, it's another 15-30 minutes by BTS to most central neighborhoods
🚖 Taxi and Grab
The official public taxi counter is on the arrivals floor — take a ticket from the machine and join the queue it assigns. The Grab app shows the fare upfront and is widely used across Bangkok, especially late at night.
Don't agree to a fixed fare from an unofficial driver approaching you in the arrivals hall — always use the official taxi queue or the Grab app.
💡 Tips
- Exchange a small amount of Thai baht (THB) at the airport — ARL tickets and initial costs are often cash-only
- Download and register for Grab before you leave Georgia
- For day trips to Ayutthaya or Pattaya, renting a car from the center is the most flexible option — Phuket is much further and needs its own domestic flight
