Strasbourg is the main city of Alsace, on the border between France and Germany along the Rhine. Its historic centre, the Grande Île, is a UNESCO World Heritage site, where a Gothic cathedral, half-timbered houses and canals blend together.

Georgian citizens travel visa-free in the Schengen area, but keep an eye on the ETIAS rules: ETIAS 2026: what to know before traveling to Europe.
🏘️ Petite France and the old centre
Petite France is the city's most photogenic quarter, with half-timbered houses, narrow streets and canals. Nearby are the covered bridges and the Vauban Dam, which offers a panoramic view of the city.
⛪ Strasbourg Cathedral
Notre-Dame de Strasbourg is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. Its spire is about 142 metres tall, and it was the tallest building in Europe for a long time. Inside is a famous astronomical clock, and the view from the top spreads across the city. Another cathedral city awaits in Tbilisi → Cologne: A Guide to Germany's Cathedral City.
🍽️ What to eat
Alsatian cuisine blends French and German traditions. Try tarte flambée (thin dough with cream and bacon), choucroute (sauerkraut with sausages) and local white wine. Restaurants in the centre are pricier.
- tarte flambée — a cheap and tasty dinner
- choucroute — a traditional Alsatian dish
- local Riesling and Gewürztraminer
- pretzels and local sweets
🎄 The Christmas market
Strasbourg is known as the capital of Christmas: its market has a very long history and opens every year in late November. For details see European Christmas Markets: Where, When and How to Plan.
🚆 Getting around
The centre is easy to explore on foot, and trams cover longer distances. For how public transport works in Europe read Public Transport in Europe: Tickets, Validation and Fines. For the Frankfurt hub see Tbilisi → Frankfurt: A Guide to Germany's Financial Capital.
