Ohrid is one of the most beautiful towns in North Macedonia. A UNESCO-listed lake, Byzantine churches and an old town make it one of the best destinations in the Balkans.
✈️ Flying from Tbilisi to Ohrid
There is no direct flight from Tbilisi to Ohrid. The most convenient option is to fly to Skopje and continue by bus or car to Ohrid, which takes about 3-3.5 hours. In season, some flights from European cities also operate to Ohrid airport.
- Tbilisi → Skopje, then a bus to Ohrid
- A flight with a connection in Istanbul or Belgrade
- Rent a car at Skopje airport for freedom on the road
🛂 Entry and money
Check the entry rules for Georgian citizens on an official source before you travel. The national currency is the Macedonian denar; euros are accepted in many places, but the denar is more favorable.
🏛️ What to see
- ⛪ Church of St. John at Kaneo — the famous landmark on a cliff above the lake
- 🏰 Samuel's Fortress and views over the town and lake
- 🎭 The ancient theater in the old town
- 📜 Church of St. Sophia and its Byzantine frescoes

📅 Season and budget
The best months for swimming are June-September, and for walking and photos May and September. Prices in the Balkans are lower than in Western Europe: a tavern meal costs $8-15 and a hotel $35-80 per night.
Many places in Ohrid work only in summer. If you visit in winter, check hotel and transport schedules in advance.
