🚇 Ways into the center
- Red metro line (Aeroporto) → Saldanha/Alameda: ≈20 min, ≈$1.10-1.50
- AeroBus (Linha Aeroporto) → Cais do Sodré: 30-45 min, ≈$5
- City bus (Carris): 40-60 min, ≈$0.75 — cheapest but slow
- Taxi: 15-25 min, ≈$20-27
- Uber/Bolt: 15-25 min, ≈$17-24
🚇 Metro — the cheapest and most reliable
The red line runs straight from the airport terminal to central stations (Saldanha, Alameda, San Sebastian) with no transfer needed. Buy a Viva Viagem card from a machine or ticket counter for about $0.55, then load it with single fares or a 24-hour pass.
Trains run from 06:30 to 01:00, every 6-9 minutes.
The same Viva Viagem card also works on the trams, including the famous route 28 — hang onto it after you reach the center.
🚌 AeroBus — straight to the tourist center
AeroBus (officially Linha Aeroporto) runs directly to Cais do Sodré, right in the tourist center, with stops at Marquês de Pombal, Restauradores and Rossio along the way. Buy tickets on board or slightly cheaper online in advance.
🚖 Taxi and Uber/Bolt
Official metered taxis charge ≈$20-27 to the center, with a small surcharge for luggage. Uber and Bolt are usually a bit cheaper and show the fare upfront — both work well in Lisbon.
Avoid unlicensed drivers outside the terminal — an official taxi rank or an app booking is always the safer choice.

- The Viva Viagem card also covers the metro, trams and buses — no need to buy separate tickets
- The metro doesn't run overnight (01:00-06:30) — a taxi or Uber/Bolt is your only option then
- Central Lisbon's hills are steep — dragging heavy luggage onto a tram or bus can be awkward
