Split is the heart of Croatia's Adriatic coast, where 1,700 years of Roman history meet seaside living. The city center is built inside the living ruins of Diocletian's Palace, and from here the islands — Hvar, Brač — are just a short hop away. From Tbilisi you reach Split via a connection in 6-9 hours.
Flights from Tbilisi to Split
Split Airport (SPU) is ~25 km from the city, 30-40 minutes to the center by bus or taxi. There is currently no direct TBS-SPU flight, but connecting routes are plentiful:
- Turkish Airlines — via Istanbul (IST); the most frequent connection
- Austrian Airlines — via Vienna (VIE); a comfortable one-stop option
- LOT Polish Airlines — via Warsaw (WAW)
- Wizz Air / Pegasus — seasonally, a budget combination from Kutaisi (KUT) or via Istanbul
- Ticket price: $280-560 round trip depending on season — compare on the Travel365 price calendar
Visa: Schengen rules
Croatia has been part of both the Schengen zone and the eurozone since 2023. Georgian citizens with a biometric passport can enter visa-free under the 90/180-day rule.
Once ETIAS launches (second half of 2026) you'll need a €7 online authorisation valid for three years. Full details in the Travel365 ETIAS 2026 guide.
Best time to visit
- June-September — summer: 28-32°C, warm sea, frequent island ferries; peak and most expensive
- May and late September-October: ideal — warm weather, fewer crowds, lower prices
- July-August: ultra-busy; book hotels and ferries well in advance
- November-March: calm and cheap, the sea is cool — still worth it for the history
Top attractions
- 🏛️ Diocletian's Palace — a 4th-century Roman palace, a UNESCO site and the living center of the city
- ⛪ Cathedral of St. Domnius — one of the world's oldest active cathedrals; the best panorama from the bell tower
- 🌊 The Riva — the seafront promenade, the city's strolling heart with palms and cafes
- 🏞️ Marjan Hill — a pine-covered hill above the city with views and walking trails
- ⛵ The islands of Hvar and Brač — about 1 hour by ferry; some of the Adriatic's best beaches
- 🏰 Klis Fortress — 30 minutes from the city; a "Game of Thrones" filming location
Inside Diocletian's Palace, tickets are sold for individual sites (the cellars, the bell tower). Go early in the morning — by midday tour groups fill the narrow lanes.
Budget and practical tips
Split is among Croatia's pricier cities, especially in summer. Budget guide: 3★ hotel — $75-140/night; dinner at a konoba (local tavern) — $18-32; a ferry ticket to an island — $6-12. Budget option: an apartment or hostel plus market produce.
Split fits naturally into a Dalmatian route — combine it with Dubrovnik in one trip (about 3-4 hours by bus). Get an eSIM for internet on arrival, and search and compare flights on the Travel365 price calendar.
