ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) is Europe's new electronic travel authorisation for citizens of visa-free countries. Georgian citizens who travel visa-free to the Schengen area will need ETIAS once it comes into effect.
What ETIAS is and isn't
ETIAS is not a visa — it's a pre-authorisation, similar to the US ESTA. It's linked to your passport and required for visa-free entry to the Schengen area.
Who it applies to
ETIAS applies to citizens of countries that can enter Schengen visa-free — including Georgian citizens with a biometric passport.
You must obtain ETIAS online before your flight — you can't get it at the border.
Cost, validity and application
- Cost: around €7 (ages 18-70; children and seniors free)
- Validity: 3 years or until the passport expires
- Application: on the official ETIAS website or app
- Processing: often within minutes, but can take a few days
What you need to apply
- A valid biometric passport
- An email address and a bank card to pay
- Trip details (first country of entry)
Only get ETIAS from the official source. There are look-alike fake sites that charge extra fees. Check the latest rules on the official EU source before you fly.
Tip
Apply at least a few days before your flight so processing has time. Save the confirmation in your email — it may be checked at the border.
