Baggage is one of the most stressful parts of flying — exceed the limit even slightly and you can pay 30-80€ in overweight fees. Good preparation saves money, time and nerves. Here is everything you need to know, from weight limits to packing hacks.
Baggage weight limits by airline
- Turkish Airlines — 20 kg economy class, 1 piece
- Pegasus Airlines — 15 kg or 20 kg depending on fare, 1 piece
- Wizz Air — 10 kg, 20 kg or 26 kg depending on fare or purchased allowance
- FlyDubai — 20 kg or 30 kg depending on fare
- Georgian Airways — 20 kg economy class
Size limits
Checked bag dimensions are usually unrestricted — only weight matters. However, some airlines charge an oversize fee for bags exceeding 158 cm total (length + width + height).
The most practical checked bag size is 55-65 L (roughly 60×40×30 cm), which holds about 20 kg when packed efficiently.
Packing hacks
- 🧳 Roll, don't fold: rolling clothes saves space and reduces creases
- 🔲 Packing cubes: keep items organized and easy to find
- 👟 Shoes in shoe bags — fill gaps with socks
- 🧴 Liquids in a sealed bag — prevents leaks and spills
- ⚖️ Weigh your bag at home before heading to the airport
Pre-flight checklist
- ☑ Weigh your bag at home (bathroom scales work)
- ☑ Ticket + passport accessible at all times
- ☑ Liquids ≤100 ml each in a clear 1-litre bag in hand luggage
- ☑ Laptop in a separate bag (removed at Security)
- ☑ Card + cash (estimate local currency needs)
- ☑ Charger + power bank (in hand luggage)
- ☑ Visa / ETIAS documents printed or saved offline
Add baggage online on the airline website before your trip — it is 2-3× cheaper than at the airport. Wizz Air can charge up to €80 on the spot.
Lost baggage — how to protect yourself
Tuck an AirTag or another Bluetooth tracker inside your checked bag. Apple's Find My network can locate your bag at any airport.
Add a luggage tag with your name, email or phone number — and put an identical label inside the bag too.
