Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) sits about 45 km south of the city center. Some budget carriers, including AirAsia, use the KLIA2 terminal within the same complex — always double-check which terminal your flight uses before booking.
🚕 Ways into the center
- KLIA Ekspres → KL Sentral station: ~28 min, ~$13 (55 MYR)
- KLIA Transit (more stops) → KL Sentral: ~35-40 min, same fare
- Grab (Malaysia's dominant ride-hailing app) → center: 45-60 min, ~$25-38, with the price shown upfront
- Fixed-fare taxi coupon from the airport counter → center: ~$25-38
- Aerobus → center: ~60-90 min, ~$6, the most budget-friendly option
🚄 KLIA Ekspres — the fastest option
The KLIA Ekspres runs from the terminal basement straight to KL Sentral, the city's central station, with no traffic — from there you can transfer onto the LRT, MRT or monorail toward your hotel.
- Trains run every 15-20 minutes, roughly 05:00-01:00
- From KL Sentral, it's another 10-20 minutes to most central neighborhoods
🚖 Grab and taxi
A fixed-fare taxi coupon is sold at an official counter in the arrivals hall — this avoids queueing and haggling. The Grab app shows the fare upfront and is widely used across Malaysia.
Don't agree to a fixed fare from an unofficial driver approaching you in the arrivals hall — always use the official taxi counter or the Grab app.
💡 Tips
- Exchange a small amount of Malaysian ringgit (MYR) at the airport — the Aerobus and initial costs are often cash-only
- Download and register for Grab before you leave Georgia
- A free shuttle connects KLIA and KLIA2 in about 5 minutes if your flight changes terminals
