Oslo Gardermoen Airport (OSL) sits about 50 km north of the city center. The fastest option — the Flytoget express train — reaches the central station in 20 minutes, but the regular regional train covers almost the same route in nearly the same time for a lot less money, one of the best-known local money-saving tricks for travelers in Norway.
🚕 Ways into the center
- Flytoget express → Oslo S: ~20 min, ~$20 (210 NOK)
- Vy regional train → Oslo S: ~22-25 min, ~$13 (130-150 NOK)
- Flybussen airport bus → city center: ~40-50 min, ~$19 (199 NOK)
- Bolt / taxi → city center: ~35-45 min, ~$75-115 (800-1200 NOK)
🚄 Flytoget — the fastest, but pricier
Flytoget runs from the airport basement straight to Oslo Central Station (Oslo S), with no traffic, every 10-20 minutes.
- Operates roughly 05:00-01:00
- Buy tickets from the platform machine or the Flytoget app
- Oslo S connects to the whole city by tram and metro
🚆 The regular train — the budget alternative
Vy's regional trains run on the same tracks to the same Oslo S station, just 2-5 minutes slower — for nearly half the price.
Watch the platform screens carefully — Flytoget and Vy trains often share the same platform, and you need a separate Vy ticket.
🚌 Flybussen — the airport bus
Flybussen stops at several points around the city center, including near major hotels — handy if you're not staying close to the central station.
💡 Tips
- Norway is almost entirely cashless — card payment works everywhere
- Download the Ruter app for getting around the city once you're in the center
- Official taxis run on the meter — expect Scandinavian-level fares, among the highest in Europe
