Trabzon Airport (TZX) sits right on the Black Sea coast, only about 6 km from the center — one of the closest airports to a city center by European standards. Thanks to that short distance, getting into town takes 10 to 30 minutes at most, depending on which option you choose.
🚗 Ways into the center
- Taxi → city center: 10-15 min, ~$11-15 (metered)
- Havaş airport shuttle → the bus terminal (otogar): 20-25 min, ~$4-7
- City bus (Havalimanı line) → center: 25-35 min, ~$1.50-2.20
- Car rental — several company desks are inside the terminal
🚕 Taxi — the most convenient
The taxi rank is right outside arrivals. The ride to the center takes no more than 10-15 minutes, with the fare running on the meter — about $11-15 on average. There's usually no extra charge for luggage.
Booking a taxi through the BiTaksi app shows the fare upfront and removes the language barrier entirely — the same app is used in Istanbul.
🚌 The Havaş shuttle and city bus
The Havaş airport shuttle runs to the central bus terminal (otogar), timed around the main flight schedules — tickets are sold right at the terminal. The city bus is even cheaper, though it runs less often and isn't the most comfortable option with heavy luggage.
💡 Tips
- On a late-night flight, a taxi is the only reliable option — the Havaş shuttle rarely runs overnight
- For a Sumela Monastery day trip, an organized transfer beats public transport
- Activate an eSIM in advance so maps and taxi apps work the moment you land — see the eSIM guide
